Did You Miss the Deadline?

April 7th, 2017 was the final date for businesses to register under the Packaging Regulations. If your company missed this deadline, you may be at risk of enforcement action from the Environment Agency.

The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007 apply to businesses with a turnover exceeding £2 million that place packaging on the UK market—either as a product or as packaging around goods.

If your business is required to register and hasn’t done so, you’re now in breach of the law. This means the Environment Agency could take enforcement action against you, which could result in fines or other penalties.

However, it’s not too late to get things sorted. You can still register with an approved Compliance Scheme like Kite’s. But just like a late tax return with HMRC, there may be a late registration fee involved.
