Analyze color conversion between different ICCs

Colors are converted between different ICCs in four ways: perceptible, relative chroma, saturation, and absolute chroma (found in the photoshop color management panel and converted to a profile panel).

Perceptual rendering intent

This is the most common way to convert. This method changes all the colors in the color space of the source device while keeping all the colors in the same relationship, but makes all the colors remain unchanged.

This is because our eyes are more sensitive to the relationship between colors and less sensitive to the absolute value of color. It is more suitable for the smaller CMYK color gamut conversion of the RGB color gamut of the sedan.

Simple understanding: it can be called overall compression. The advantage is that it can maintain the contrast between all the colors on the image. The disadvantage is that each color on the image will change, and you can often see that the image will become lighter overall.

Keep it bright, but the color will be inaccurate.

Media-relative colorimetric rendering intent

The relative chromaticity is to accurately copy all the colors in the excellent domain, and cut out the colors outside the gamut, and convert the cropped colors into the closest reproducible colors. Relative chroma reproduction intent is a better choice for image reproduction than perceptual reproduction intent because it retains more of the original color. Suitable for conversion between ICCs with little difference in color gamut, such as: ICC of Japanese prepress CMYK is converted into icc of the United States.

Simple understanding: try to be as original as possible. The advantage is that most of the colors do not change, the disadvantage is that the color of the individual beyond the color gamut varies greatly.

Saturation rendering intent

This method tries to maintain the vividness of the color, but not the accuracy of the color. It maps the most saturated color in the source device's color space to the most saturated color in the target device. This method is suitable for the reproduction of various charts and other commercial graphics, or for the production of maps with height or depth in color, as well as cartoons and comics.

ICC-absolute colorimetric rendering intent

Absolute chroma does not map the white point of the source device color space to the white point of the target device color space. If the white color of the source device color space is blue, and the white paper of the target device color space is slightly yellowed, when the absolute chromaticity reproduction intention is used, some white ink is added to the white area of the output to simulate the original white color. The absolute chromaticity reproduction intention is mainly designed for proofing, in order to simulate the reproduction effect of the final output device on another proofing device.

Simple understanding: Simulated paper white, white varies greatly. Not suitable for general conversion, but only used in rare cases, you don't have to master it.

The conversion between different ICCs must follow these four conversion methods. At the same time, when we convert the icc file of the image, it is best to look at the different conversion methods to bring changes to the image, and choose the conversion method that is most suitable for the existing image.
