Mahogany furniture will rise next month

Since the second half of 2012, mahogany furniture has ushered in a “low valley period”.

According to many industry sources, in the past year, the cost of mahogany production has increased by 10% to 20%, and the price of most mahogany furniture has hardly changed, and even declined.

On August 1, 2012, the National Standard for General Technical Conditions of Redwood Furniture was officially implemented. This standard regulates the product classification and product naming of mahogany furniture, and stipulates that mahogany furniture products must be equipped with a national uniform product quality express card.

The furniture carved by Ruili Redwood Furniture Factory is vivid.

In March of this year, the 16th Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora published a revised list of new amendments. According to the list, Dalbergia chinensis, D. chinensis, Dwarf Dalbergia, Belize Dalbergia and L. serrata are listed in Appendix II as Appendix III.

On June 12, the newly revised Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES Convention) is about to enter into force. According to the national standard GB18107-2000 "Redwood", the number of redwood species listed in the CITES Convention has risen to seven, and the international trade management of redwood logs will become more stringent. According to industry insiders, the implementation of the Convention will have an impact on the import of mahogany raw materials. The import management of mahogany will become more and more strict, and the prices of domestic mahogany products, especially mahogany furniture, will rise.

According to the reporter's understanding, the industry has begun to wait for the upswing, and even some merchants have already formulated a price increase plan. However, at the moment, mahogany furniture is going north and south. Because there is no standard regulation, the chaotic situation is inevitable.

Sian rosewood or price increase 20% -30%

Since the second half of last year, the mahogany furniture industry has ushered in a "low valley".

According to many industry sources, in the past year, the cost of mahogany production has increased by 10% to 20%, and the price of most mahogany furniture has hardly changed, and even declined. "Buy up and not buy down" is once again reflected.

Zhang Hongjian has always talked about the fact that when he first entered this line, he always seemed to be extraordinarily energetic. "That was in 2007, the people who came to buy mahogany furniture were in a constant stream, and even after the introduction of this customer, the customer who was attending would immediately call the one just opened," he said.

On the afternoon of May 20, the reporter went to the home of Zhang Hongjian, the home of Baijilong. The mahogany furniture sales shop is concentrated on the fourth floor. There are several store sales staff who are concentrating on a chat, and some sales people are walking back and forth on the corridor to exercise. The reporters entered several stores one after another. There was no light in the house, no shadows were seen, and there were also stores that were vacant and ruined.

“Last year, when the family settled in, the expenses were doubled compared with the previous ones, and the market situation itself was sluggish. The number of shops was reduced from the previous 13 to the nearest 7.” Zhang Hongjian said: “Before the mahogany Whether the information is information or the price is greatly transparent, it is not daring to raise prices. At present, it is mainly to stabilize customers."

Gong Nanzhu also has a similar view to Zhang Hongjian. He also remembers the "good times" of mahogany furniture: "Between 1999 and 2005, mahogany furniture was smashed and collected in China, and the price even doubled in two months. In the case, profits are more than doubled, and today it is between 15% and 20%."

Like other industries, some rosewood mahogany furniture in Southeast Asia like Southeast Asia is also in a state of overcapacity. However, the furniture made of rare mahogany such as Laos Sian rosewood is less than demand, and the price has soared.

In the second half of last year, the price of a set of sofas with Laojiao Dalbergia as wood was more than 400,000, and now it has risen to more than 500,000. "In recent years, Sian rosewood has almost replaced the almost extinct lobular rosewood, and has been popular with everyone." Zhang Bolin said.

Recently, Zhang Bolin received news from the China Forest Products Association that the price of mahogany furniture will rise sharply in the next June, which is imperative.

The source of this news stems from the revised list of the newly revised Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (also known as the CITES Convention) in March this year. According to the list, five kinds of sandalwood, such as Sian rosewood, are upgraded to the second category by three types of cherished protected plants, and a license is required for international trade. This new regulation will take effect on June 12 this year.

“The protection level of Dalbergia chinensis is improved, and it is more difficult to import from Laos. At present, even domestically, it is cheaper than Laos. Due to limited raw materials, it will face a price increase of 20% to 30% in June.” Zhang Bolin pointed out "It has always been the norm for the price increase of rare mahogany furniture. It is not surprising that this round of price hikes is likely to affect some mahogany furniture with relatively abundant raw materials."

On the official website of "Lian Tianhong", the price starting from June 1 has been announced. The price of Sian rosewood furniture is 20 yuan per kilogram, and the price of most mahogany furniture such as African rosewood and hedgehog rosewood is 10 yuan per kilogram.

In the Mohan port, which borders Laos on the southernmost port of Yunnan, many timber merchants have reported that Laojiao Sian rosewood is mainly consuming stocks, and there is a similar meaning in China. "If both are exhausted, the Sian Dalbergia will surely usher in a big rise." Zhang Bolin said.

“The boutique route is imperative”

In the mahogany furniture industry, there is such a "strange thing": "The mahogany furniture is sold in the stalls." It is said that the mahogany furniture sales process is like selling goods, and it is sold in the stalls.

This statement makes Zhang Bolin, who has been doing mahogany business for more than 20 years, quite dissatisfied: "The mahogany furniture is made of the above-mentioned good mahogany, plus exquisite carving, as well as advanced drying, jigsaw and other techniques, thus making it practical. Collection is one. It is the "king" in furniture."

The use of mahogany furniture can be traced back to the Ming Dynasty, that is, after Zheng He went to the Western Ocean, he brought back the mahogany. Because the wood is hard, and it is full of red and purple, it has been favored by the royal family. Later, he became a spokesperson for grace and luxury.

As the guardian of this graceful and splendid spokesperson, Zhang Bolin has always adopted a single-minded attitude and has not been involved in other industries. "The redwood industry is already very deep, and it may not be a big bubble if it can invest hundreds of millions of yuan." He said, "For four or five years, investment and income are not proportional."

The mahogany furniture industry, like other industries, is also experiencing a process of prosperity, excess and quality. "The current mahogany furniture market is in a state of surplus, and its future lies in quality." Gong Nanzhu said.

In the process of producing mahogany furniture, there are good materials, and no good work can be described as "violent things." "A good designer can make the carving layer on the mahogany furniture clear and lively, giving it more humanities and spiritual connotations, and really let the rosewood appreciate." Gong Nanzhu said. “The process of producing mahogany furniture should be the process of creation, not manufacturing.”

In Yang Hongbin's view, the boutique route of mahogany furniture is imperative. He attributed the reason to: "One is that the production cycle of mahogany is long, under the conditions of "three highs" of high temperature, high heat and high humidity, from a few decades to more than a hundred years; the second is that the rate of redwood is lower, abandoning Hollow, insect eyes, etc., the yield is generally only 35% to 55%; the third is that countries have increased protection, imports are getting harder and harder."

At the same time, with the discovery of good wood in Africa, the Americas and other places, some mahogany furniture dealers have turned their attention to these areas.

At present, Yang Hongbin is planning a boutique route: “Increase the industrial cluster development, establish technology R&D centers such as drying and jigsaw, and build regional brands. At the same time, establish a unified industry standard.” This is not only Yang Hongbin’s personal planning. Zhang Bolin and others have similar ideas. In their view, this road is a bit long because the drivers are not themselves, but the government.

Manual burr grinders are turned by hand, rotating one grinding surface against the other. Coffee mills usually have a handle, providing leverage for the many turns required to grind enough coffee for a cup. The ground coffee is collected in a container which is part of the mill.

Salt, pepper, and spice mills, essentially the same as coffee mills, usually do not have a handle, the entire top rotating instead. While this is less convenient, only a few turns are required to grind enough. The ground product falls directly onto the food being seasoned; the mill has no container. A few designs have abrasive surfaces which do not rotate; each squeeze of the handles moves one flat plate past another, then the plates are restored to their original position by a spring. Many hard spices are available in containers incorporating a simple cone burr grinder, intended to be discarded when empty.

Most grinders can be adjusted to set the fineness of grind.

Manual mills can be used for grinding other food products than they are intended for, but mills designed for pepper grinding are inappropriate for producing finely-ground flour. Laura Ingalls Wilder's novel The Long Winter describes a family grinding wheat in a coffee mill to make flour during months of hardship.

The first Coffee Grinder was made by Richard Dearmann, an English blacksmith from Birmingham, in 1799. Then this grinder was widely distributed in the US, where Increase Wilson patented the first wall coffee grinder in 1818.[citation needed]

Peugeot of France patented a Pepper Grinder in 1842. The mechanism of case-hardened steel cracked the peppercorns before the actual grinding process. The grooves on the Peugeot mechanism were individually cut into the metal and then case-hardened, making them very durable.[citation needed]
