Rotate the motor pulley or shaft slowly and evenly at a constant speed by hand to carefully observe the number of times the multimeter pointer swings. Each time the multimeter pointer is swung, the current in the phase winding changes positively and negatively, so that it can be determined that the motor has several pairs of poles.
In this method, when the rotor is rotated at a constant speed by the asynchronous motor, the residual magnetic flux of the rotor cuts the stator winding to induce a minute induced electromotive force, thereby generating a current and swinging the pointer of the multimeter. It is worth mentioning that when the long-term unused motor is tested by the above method, the multimeter pointer may be unresponsive. This is because the residual magnetism of the motor has disappeared. At this time, as long as the motor is connected to the power line in a normal way, the motor is energized for a few minutes. After the power is turned off, the stator winding of the motor is remanent, and then the number of poles can be determined by the above method.
