3D printing: use the mobile phone to appreciate the charm of holographic images

Recently, an article on how to use a simple plastic pyramid to display holographic images on a smartphone screen appeared on the open source hardware hotspot Instructables. Inspired by Italian 3D printing designer Gianluca Pugliese, it designed a pyramid-type tool that uses ABS material 3D printing, which enables the image source from smartphones to perfectly display its shape and detail texture in 3D. This makes it easier for many people to appreciate the fascinating charm of holographic images.

Pugliese said: "Because I saw a tutorial on Instructables to display holograms on a smartphone with simple plastic, I decided to print it in 3D. So, I have been collecting various kinds in the past few weeks. Materials, especially those that can print truly transparent objects in 3D."

The tutorial on Instructables is actually very simple. It can be easily manufactured using a few transparent plastic plates, while Pugliese is printed in 3D with transparent ABS material. The resulting image has a flowing aesthetic.

If you want to use the easiest way, just use transparent plastic, such as acrylic, cut out the walls of the pyramid and assemble them with tape. A square of one centimeter square should be placed at the top of the pyramid so that you can view the hologram from the light source of the smartphone from the square. And the only materials you need for this project are plastic bottles, scissors, tape and your smartphone.

“Just put your pyramid in an inverted position in the center of the crosshairs on the phone screen you see in the video you started, turn off the lights around and you can see them popping out of your screen.” Said in this tutorial.

The Pugliese's design is even more perfect. He carefully selected the transparent material and printed it into a transparent pyramid using a 3D printer to display the desired holographic image. Because it is made by 3D printing, Pugliese can achieve the best results through precise technology, and the displayed 3D objects are clearer and more delicate. The holographic device designed by Pugliese is not only creative but also permanent, it can be used in any kind of mobile holographic application.
