The designer Natasha Baradaran is a Los Angeles native with a rich cultural heritage—her family hails from Italy by way of Persia . “I’m a blend of many influences,†Baradaran explains, whose creative scope extends beyond interior design to include her own collections of furniture and textiles . “All these elements come together in my work, creating a unique perspective.†This distinctive vision is evident in a recent project—a farmhouse-style home for a newlywed couple in Santa Monica, California —where she skillfully combined Art Deco pieces with a more bohemian spirit.

Baradaran sought to create a sense of California casualness while ensuring the home didn't fall into complete informality. Her playful use of color strikes just the right balance—soft pinks serve as neutrals in the living and family rooms, while other spaces feature bold color combinations like the breakfast room’s orange and teal palette.

Texture plays a crucial role in enhancing the home’s comforting atmosphere . In the family room, Baradaran preserved an existing architectural detail —the ceramic faux-wood paneling—which adds intrigue without overwhelming the space. She then softened the room with a plush wool rug and curtains made from a dip-dyed Rosemary Hallgarten fabric. The primary bedroom walls are covered in a hemp wallcovering by Phillip Jeffries , and the room features a custom bed and a curvy settee that nods to Art Deco but feels light-hearted thanks to its two-tone upholstery.
“We wanted the house to feel approachable yet elegant,†Baradaran notes. “The clients are a young couple who’ve just married, and their styles blended beautifully. Happily, they’re thrilled with the result.â€
