The designer Natasha Baradaran hails from Los Angeles and has roots that trace back to Persia via Italy . “I’m a blend of different cultures and influences,†Baradaran explains, who not only designs interiors but also creates her own collections of furniture and textiles . “It’s all these elements combined that make my work unique.†This distinct approach is evident in a recent project, a farmhouse-style home she designed for a newlywed couple in Santa Monica, California . Here, Baradaran seamlessly blended Art Deco pieces with a more bohemian spirit.

Baradaran sought to create a sense of California casualness without sacrificing sophistication. To achieve this, she employed a playful use of color throughout the home, using shades of pink as a substitute for neutrals in the living and family rooms. In other areas, she took a bolder approach, incorporating unexpected color combinations like the orange and teal palette in the breakfast nook.

Texture plays a crucial role in enhancing the home's sense of comfort . In the family room, Baradaran preserved an existing architectural feature—the ceramic faux-wood paneling—adding intrigue without overwhelming the space. She further softened the room with a shaggy wool rug and curtains made from a dip-dyed Rosemary Hallgarten fabric. The primary bedroom features walls adorned with a hemp wallcovering by Phillip Jeffries , complemented by a custom bed and a curvy settee that echoes Art Deco aesthetics but feels light-hearted thanks to its two-toned upholstery.
“We wanted the house to feel approachable yet elegant,†Baradaran notes. “The clients are a young couple who recently got married, and their styles complement each other beautifully. Happily, they absolutely adore the result.â€
