The waterproof field photography kit supports various Raspberry Pi models, including the A-type version. It comes with essential components such as a Raspberry Pi, a battery pack, a camera module, and an infrared sensor. Once set up, the camera automatically detects nearby wildlife and starts capturing photos or videos. Its open-source design allows for future upgrades, including the ability to upload images via WiFi after each shot.
For 3D printing enthusiasts, the most exciting part of the project is the development kit offered by Naturebytes. This kit enables creators to use their own 3D printer and Raspberry Pi to build custom automatic cameras. “This is aimed at advanced users, developers, and designers,†explains the company.
If you already have a 3D printer and are experienced in making, this kit provides all the necessary electronics and design files for you to experiment. You can also share your modifications with the Naturebytes community. In essence, this gives makers the freedom to explore different shapes, camera setups, and 3D printed materials—whether for functionality or camouflage.
Naturebytes has set a funding goal of $45,000. The fully assembled Wildlife Cam is priced at $134, while the development kit costs $71. The project aims to bring hands-on learning into the real world, moving beyond traditional classrooms and computer desks.
