**A Heartfelt Contribution to a Remarkable Cause**
In a recent act of generosity, our compliance division reached out to support Riding for the Disabled, Abingdon Group, by donating £1,000. This contribution came after a visit where we met Ann, the chair of the charity, and Alice, who was conducting a riding session. It was an inspiring experience to witness firsthand the incredible work they do in transforming lives through horse riding therapy.
Established in 1975, Abingdon Riding for Disabled offers a unique therapeutic experience to over 84 individuals, ranging from children to adults. Through horse riding and participation in social events, competitions, and national holidays, they enrich lives that might otherwise feel confined. Their efforts significantly enhance independence, self-confidence, and overall well-being among participants, making a profound difference in the community.
The charity relies heavily on its dedicated team of over 140 volunteers who generously contribute their time and energy. These volunteers make it possible for the group to deliver year-round riding therapy to people with a wide range of disabilities, including learning difficulties, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, and various syndromes. The impact is immeasurable, as each volunteer plays a vital role in creating a supportive and nurturing environment.
During our visit, we were struck by the joy and positivity that radiated from everyone involved. The smiles on the faces of the children and adults as they interacted with the horses were unforgettable. It was evident that this center serves not only as a place for physical therapy but also as a hub for building lasting friendships and boosting self-esteem.
Despite their remarkable achievements, the charity faces financial challenges. Operating costs amount to £100,000 annually, and they are currently fundraising for a new full-sized indoor arena, which requires an additional £65,000. This investment would ensure a safe and weatherproof environment for riders, allowing them to practice and compete year-round. For blind riders, it would open new opportunities to showcase their dressage skills in a competition-sized arena, while more capable riders could push their limits in a faster-paced setting.
