On the 15th local time, the Critical Ecosystem Cooperation Fund (CEPF) officially announced in India that the European Commission will become its new partner, investing 18 million euros (about 147 million yuan) to help Africa Government organizations to protect some of the most important ecosystems in the world. The EU stated that protecting biodiversity will promote a green economy, create jobs, and reduce poverty.
It is reported that the funds donated by the European Union will fund non-governmental organizations and some environmental protection individuals within five years for the protection of biodiversity hotspots, including support for CEPF's ongoing biodiversity conservation projects and expansion of new conservation location. These hot spots of biodiversity have the richest biological resources on earth, but are being threatened.
It is understood that before the European Commission joined, the Key Ecosystem Cooperation Fund already had six partners, namely the French Development Agency, Conservation International Foundation, the Global Environment Facility, the Japanese Government, the MacArthur Foundation and the World Bank. Together with the European Commission ’s appropriation, the total key ecosystem cooperation fund will reach 270 million euros.
